About Me
Babyproofing Pittsburgh (BPP) has been in business since 2000; Kim and her husband Robert were trained as Authorized Distributors and Installers for Protect-A-Child Pool Fence Company in 2007 and have been selling and installing them ever since.
Kim Finkbeiner, the founder and President of Babyproofing Pittsburgh, was born and raised in the south hills of Pittsburgh and is a retired home health Physical Therapist (as of 2020). She started her childproofing business when her second child was born in order to have a more flexible schedule while raising her family and to scratch her entrepreneurial itch outside of her chosen profession. She earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Management from Virginia Tech and worked for ten years as a Cost Estimator and Cost Analyst at a defense contractor and then a Department of Energy site. After 10 years working full time, Kim went back to school and received a Master of Physical Therapy degree from the Medical College of Georgia. She feels very thankful to be able to use both of her degrees to perform work that is fulfilling and helps both patients and families in her hometown. Her physical therapy training in children’s motor development and home safety, combined with her life experience as a mother raising two now grown children, strengthens her qualifications for the specialized, unique field of professional childproofing. Robert works full time in the IT field as a contracted Business Analyst Team Lead for the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation and assists Kim with her business on many spring and summer weekends installing pool fences. They both enjoy the work and gain fulfillment from helping parents and caregivers make their pools safer with the goal of preventing drownings.
