Beyond the Pool: Other Backyard Water Hazards You Might Be Overlooking

When it comes to water safety, pools aren’t the only concern. Ponds, fountains, and even kiddie pools can pose hidden risks for kids and pets. The good news? A few simple precautions can keep your backyard both fun and safe!

1. Ponds & Water Gardens

A tranquil pond adds charm to your yard, but even a few inches of water can be dangerous. Installing a fence around your pond helps prevent accidental falls while maintaining your landscape’s beauty. Protect A Child Pool fences are often used for safety in this situation, due to its ultra clear mesh & durable-weather resistant materials and removable in minuets!

2. Fountains & Birdbaths

Fountains and birdbaths may seem harmless, but small children can still fall in. If possible, choose wall mounted fountains or tiered fountains that circulate water internally. If you have a fountain with an open basin place a sturdy safety grate over the basin or encircle with a removable fence to prevent access while allowing water to flow.

3. Inflatable Toys & Kiddie Pools

Kiddie pools and floaties add fun but can be unexpected hazards. Always empty small pools after use – remember it only takes a few inches for a small child to drown in – and always put away pool toys/ inflatables after use. Any toys left in the pool may attract children to the water.

4. Rain Barrels & Drainage Areas

Collecting rainwater? Open barrels can be a drowning hazard for children as well as small animals. Use secure lids or mesh covers to keep kids, pets, and wildlife safe.

5. Hot Tubs & Spas

Even with a cover, hot tubs can be risky. Use a lockablesafety-rated cover and drain the tub when not in use. A removable fence or locking gate adds extra protection.

6. Slip & Slide Zones

Sprinklers, splash pads, and wet patios are prime spots for slips! Use slip-resistantmats, keep towels handy, and remind kids to walknot run, near water.

With a few smart precautions, you can enjoy all your backyard water features—without the worry. Stay safe and keep splashing!
