Anytime a parent loses a child, it is heartbreaking and unimaginably painful for everyone involved. Even those who did not know the child directly can sympathize when a parent has to deal with such a tragedy.
A few months ago, Olympic skier Bode Miller and his wife lost their 19-month-old daughter Emeline. The little girl fell into a neighbor’s pool during a party in California and drowned. She did not have a pulse when the paramedics arrived and tried to revive her. Emeline was taken to the hospital and died a day later. Our hearts are breaking for Miller and his family as they deal with this horrible tragedy.
Reports indicate that the little girl was only in the water for a short time before she was pulled out and CPR was given. As we all know it doesn’t take a long for a child to succumb to injuries in the water.
Unfortunately, situations like these are not uncommon. According to the Centers for Disease Control, drowning is the leading cause of death for children ages 1 to 14. Statistics also show an average of 51 children die from drowning in California each year.
Ever since this drowning, we have been inundated with calls from people wanting to prevent this from happening near them by installing a pool fence. A pool fence prevents children or anyone else for that matter from accidentally falling into the pool. By creating a barrier around the pool, no one can fall in.
While accidents can certainly happen at any time, installing a pool fence can give you greater peace of mind that there will be less of a chance of that happening. Sadly enough it takes tragedies like these to bring the issue of pool safety to the forefront. When people hear of these things happening they immediately begin to think of ways to keep their pool area safer.
